Lassi Juurinen gets bronze from Digital Racing eSM Championships
The battle for the Finnish championship in digital motorsport was held in Jyväskylä on 3.8.2024.
It has already become a tradition, that the competition was held in connection with Secto Rally WRC Finland in the eSports Arena of the Rally pavilion. Sontek Racing was represented with two drivers. Matti Sipilä defended his title from last year and Lassi Juurinen redeemed his place in the top competitions in the past qualifiers.
This year's car was a FIA F4 Formula, and the race consisted of two 25-minute races in iRacing. The track chosen was the challenging "Circuito de Navarra". 20 of Finland's best simulator drivers were eligible, all of whom drove OverPower-simulators.
The first start was dominated by Teemu Myllykangas and Lassi Juurinen drove nicely to the chequered flag in third. Matti Sipilä's race was cut short due to a crash on the first lap and the resulting DNF.
The second stint was gridded based on the order of the finish of the first start. This gave Lassi Juurinen a great strike position just behind pole position. This race was a thrill show from start to finish. The standings of the top three changed several times and the battle was on all the way to the chequered flag. This start was eventually won by Jesse Telkkälä, who dominated the qualifying series, with Myllykangas coming to the chequered flag in second place and Juurinen in third.
After the points from both starts had been counted, Teemu Myllykangas took the championship and Jesse Telkkälä was awarded silver. Sontek Racing's Lassi Juurinen took bronze.
